After her husband is killed, Abby Finn retreats to Goose Inlet where someone is poaching sea turtle eggs and leaving human body parts beneath the nests. Is her husband to blame?

***

Abby Finn can’t get an answer to why her husband’s laboratory blew up on Mother’s Day with him in it. She seeks comfort in the little seaside town of Goose Inlet, and half-heartedly joins the local sea turtle project. Her bid for serenity is shattered, however, when she helps excavate a strangely behaving turtle nest and, instead of finding unhatched Loggerhead eggs, grabs a handful of human flesh. And that’s not the only nest with missing eggs. And not the only nest where eggs are poached and replaced with pieces of a person.

Abby casts a suspicious eye on several possible poachers. There’s the prickly volunteer with money problems. Two goofy beach bums with a family history of relishing turtle egg omelets. The woman who hails from a country where sea turtle egg poaching out-profits drug smuggling. But why would any of them mark a poached nest with human flesh? And why would a smug, wingtip-wearing city dude claim Abby’s dead husband schemed to steal the eggs? When Abby finds a body floating in a cove, Goose Inlet’s peculiar summer turns murderous.

In her quest to clear her husband’s name, Abby discovers covert investigative reporter skills and a talent for breaking and entering. She gets dumped into an alligator-patrolled creek and is chased across a river while a mammoth container ship bears down on her kayak. Despite the threats on her life, will she succeed in identifying the poacher, the mutilator, and the murderer? Will she discover who killed her husband?
