Georgia Ann Mullen will discuss her books and how they complement the 90th anniversary of the 19th Amendment at the League of Women Voters luncheon Monday, Aug. 23, in Wilmington, NC. Her address will take place at 11:30 a.m. at McAlister’s Deli on College Road, across from the UNCW campus. The public is invited to attend.

The 19th Amemdment, which became part of the U.S. Constitution on Aug. 26, 1920, gave women the right to vote. Georgia’s first book, A Shocking & Unnatural Incident, revolves around Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s First Woman’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, NY in 1848. At that initial public event, Stanton defended her outrageous belief that women were capable of participating fully as U.S. citizens and demanded they be allowed to elect the representatives who were making laws women were forced to obey.
